Anyone have any issues with applying for these cards? It keeps saying that the site is temporarily down and I have tried for a couple of weeks now…

The value proposition for this card decreased significantly in my opinion after the reimbursement for airline gift card purchases were axed.

As a Canadian you cannot apply for this credit card unless you have a US address and phone number. You mentioned in the video that just have a Canadian Amex account for 3 months along with Canadian SIN number is sufficient to apply for this card. However I check with American Express and they insist on US address and phone number.

You definitely need a US address, as outlined in my article/video on Getting US Credit Cards for Canadians. For the phone number you can just use your Canadian phone number since the dialing code (+1) is the same.

How does this card fit into the Amex train strategy? I’ve had the no-fee Hilton card for less than a year. Would it be better to wait for an upgrade offer, or go ahead and apply for this one now?

It would be best to get the public offer on the Aspire via a new application first, before upgrading the no-fee card to the Aspire. If you were to upgrade first, then you wouldn’t be eligible for the one-time 150k bonus on the public offer.
