Hi Ricky
Once more thanks for the video
What you fail to high light is that former card holds will NOT get the welcome bonus points. This is huge information missing in your video
It’s not necessarily that you won’t get the bonus as a former cardholder – some former cardholders still get a repeat bonus, but there’s no recourse if you don’t receive it.
Hi Ricky, After reading your article this morning, I clicked the link on your blog to apply for the AE Platinum, within a few minutes of filling out the online application form and submitting the form online, it has been approved and AE said will mail me the AE Platinum card within 10 business days. I sure will make good use of this AE card for most of my travel perks. One question though: Can I use this AE Platinum card to purchase Aeroplan points (when AC has another points purchase bonus like the 100% bonus promotion it’s having now); if I use the new AE Plantinum card to purchase Aeroplan points in the next 3 months, will this purchase amount count toward the minimum $5000 spend in order to receive the 60k bonus points?
Thanks Ricky, always enjoying reading your articles…
Like Frank said, it definitely counts, and it can be a great way to supercharge your points earnings by buying points on a credit card that you’re looking to hit the minimum spend with – as long as you’re comfortable making that points purchase in the first place.
Hi Andrew, of course it counts! I did exactly the same last year around this time. Something to watch for is the Aeroplan 100% bonus is coming due on the 2nd, hopefully you’ll get your card before that, but if not, did you get the option to get your card number right away when you’re approved? If so, you can online shopping now!
Hi Frank, in AE’s approval email, it only indicates the last 4 digit account number that is my new AE Platinum card, it doesn’t show the whole 16 digits; also, it says “after I received the new AE card, I should activate the card online…:. So need to wait for the actual card arrive by mail, activate it, then can use it at that time. Will sure miss the April 2nd deadline for the 100% bonus purchase; hope they will have another bonus purchase promotion within 3 months….
The Platinum Card typically ships via courier, so there’s a good chance you’ll receive it before April 2.
What if I cancelled those cards last year (about the bonus)…
Thank you!
It’s more YMMV (your mileage may vary) whether you’ll get the bonus, so it’s a bit of a gamble. You might get it, as some people have recently, but you won’t have any recourse if you don’t. It’s up to your risk tolerance whether you go for it or not.
