Staying at the resort right now..
Which is impressive and as per your observations.
However, the Elite appreciation drinks are now available to Silver members+ (very generous!) – with free drinks and sweet snacks between 4-5pm each day. Gold+ members, not just Plats, will also get 2x free drink vouchers in addition.
The Tepian Laut restaurant serves modern western food for LUNCH and not dinner, when it becomes a very respectable Malaysian restaurant in it’s own right.
Based on our observations The Andaman Hotel is very Elite-light and even at the Elite appreciation drinks each day there were only 3-4 couples max (this was over a period of 1 week). As a lowly Gold Elite member I was also upgraded to a suite!
As mentioned they really do go above and beyond. Free drinks and status recognition / discounts for Silver Elites and suite upgrades for Gold Elites is insane.
Thanks for the review Ricky.
After reading your review of the Ritz Carlton and the Andaman, I think I’m going to book the Andaman over the Ritz Carlton.
Cheaper price with better elite recognition/benefits + better beach.
Can’t think of a reason why I’d want to stay at the Ritz Carlton in that area.
I think you’re making the right choice. Only thing Ritz has going for it IMO is that it’s a much newer property (and the Horizon pool is stunning). Otherwise Andaman wins in terms of the overall experience.
Also might be worth considering the St. Regis or Westin on Langkawi, which I didn’t get around to trying this time.
