Interesting that they only have one item listed as ‘Vegan’ on all their menus (sigh). Do you know if they have a seperate vegan menu or alternatively an executive Chef who will custom tailor meals to vegan families/guests (as is done at Four Seasons, Shangri La and JW Marriotts typically)? Today I got notice that my ‘world of hyatt’ points needs attention as they will expire dormant in december. I’m eagerly awaiting my U.S. cards set up so I can get a related card for earning points. I have experienced Hyatt only once but loved the Grand HYATT BGC (Metro Manila) and it was GRAND; look fwd to going back there.
For me, Park Hyatt beats the St. Regis, followed by the Ritz-Carlton – assuming you’re staying as a Globalist and Titanium member, respectively. But for the average reader, I’d say the Marriott properties most likely win out as the most “accessible” luxury option in town, since Hyatt status and points are harder to come by in Canada.
Personally, I’d keep mine around to redeem at a Category 7 property. If you didn’t have any international travel plans, though, the Park Hyatt Toronto is probably the best place in Canada to burn it.
I also have some Discounted Amex Oxford Gift cards. You mentioned I could use it towards the room charges. Is that the room rate? or just additional charges/both? Looking to book the exact same point+cash next month. Thanks!
It’s too bad they didn’t go all out..it seems a little underwhelming .I want to like this refresh but they definitely missed out on some nice touches. I like St. Regis’ heated bathroom floor and TV inside the mirror, and Ritz’s Japanese toilets. After your hotel hop in NYC, this would almost seem like a let down?
I do think they had room to do more (like the Japanese toilet), and I wanted to love this refresh but only liked it if that makes sense. I did appreciate the residential decor and layout compared to the St. Regis and Ritz though, especially in a location that’s closer to home for me.
Perhaps a “letdown” following the NYC hotels in absolute terms, but the expectations and price points in NYC are also different.
Woah ! That is high praise. I walked by that hotel countless times heading to OISE. This opens up the potential of Hyatt options. The oxford DP is new to me ! On a side note I hit up Haidi lao hotpot today which Ricky mentioned in a post months ago. SO GOOD complimentary steamed egg and toys for the baby. Anyway good times!
Points and cash isn’t what it used to be and on even night stays it’s usually better to do one night on points and one night paid for the following reasons I can think of top of my head:
1. Free parking on one of the nights,
2. save the resort fee on one night if applicable, and
3. Points plus cash is based on the standard rate, which is more expensive than the member rate. Better to pay a member rate than two halfs of a standard rate.
4. Sometimes there are points rebate promos if you’re booking a night fully on points vs points and cash
That’s fine. As long as the parking can be charged to the room (i.e. isn’t provided by a 3rd party separate from the hotel), Globalists get it waived on free night stays. The type of parking isn’t relevant.
Always appreciate your input on Hyatt stuff Glen. I wasn’t aware of the free parking benefit for Globalists on award stays as an infrequent parker myself.

Thoughts on Shangri La vs Four Seasons in Toronto booking through Amex FHR?

BTW does Hyatt offer status match to my bonvoy/hilton?
Could you rank St Regis, Ritz, PH in Toronto? I’m planning to go to Toronto soon, would love to have some feedback

Personally, I’d rank them exactly as you listed them.
Do you think it is a good place to burn a Cat7 free night ?
Personally, I’d keep mine around to redeem at a Category 7 property. If you didn’t have any international travel plans, though, the Park Hyatt Toronto is probably the best place in Canada to burn it.
I don’t think there is a single hotel room in the “South” tower as you wrote
Nope, the South Tower is reserved for Two Avenue Road residences and the bar & fitness centre.
Then perhaps this statement in your review needs review!
“Most hotel rooms are situated in the North Tower”
I also have some Discounted Amex Oxford Gift cards. You mentioned I could use it towards the room charges. Is that the room rate? or just additional charges/both? Looking to book the exact same point+cash next month. Thanks!
Should be redeemable towards all charges on your bill.

No mention of the fancy staircase that they seem so proud of? Their first few pics on instagram made it seem like a big deal
You’ll see it in the Joni restaurant pic. A bit of style over substance though, as it didn’t lead to anything noteworthy.
Prince Arthur Avenue, not St Thomas Street.
Thanks for that.

Unfortunately this hotel only offers valet parking, no self parking.
Hence, I dont believe points-stays at this hotel gets you free parking.

Agreed.
