Introducing a new format for our reviews: the mini-review, where each airline, hotel, or lounge may not warrant its own full installment, but I’d like to share with you the experience nonetheless.
In this mini-review, we’ll cover my hotel-hopping journey across the Sheraton YVR, Marriott YVR, and Hilton YVR, three fairly similar hotels located on the same block in Richmond, BC, very close to Vancouver International Airport.

Hey Guys, I am trying to book through the promotional offer currently ongoing with Stay in Richmond. We also have another offers on Amex cards on Discover BC promotion where you get $50 off on spending $250 on BC hotels. Now the questions is:
1) The charge on the credit card – does it stay Stayin richmond or Does it say Marriot/Sheraton.
The $50 off on $250 will only qualify when the credit card statement will say the hotel name instead of Stay in Richmond
The Stay Richmond promo required guests to book through their web site, not the hotel’s. Normally Marriott denies elite benefits and points earning for stays booked through third party web sites. Did they make an exception for you? For all bloggers? For this promo?
Stay Richmond and Stay Vancouver don’t actually count as third party sites, as they’re basically making the booking directly via Marriott/Hilton on your behalf. Then you can reach out to the hotel to attach your elite number. For everyone.
Vancouver is doing similar promo right now kind of wish Richmond would so its a bit cheaper and can get a Hilton
Can you please provide a link to Vancouver promo?

I had 3 separate one night stays at the Hilton, no upgrades, no water bottle in room, the only benefit I received was the Diamond breakfast benefit. I saw Ricky’s signature on the Amex gift card list and commented and the lady at checkin definitely knew who you were. Nobody at the checkin desk wore a mask on all 3 checkin and checkouts, only the staff in the restaurant wore a mask ( and got my order wrong). Lesson learned: add R Zhang as second guest😀
Definitely a disappointing showing from the Hilton YVR in terms of the staff’s mask usage. I’ll put in a good word for the older gentleman working at the restaurant, though, who was very eager to chat and took care of me quite well during breakfast.
I think I’ll also add Ricky Zhang name as a second guest. I stayed at the Sheraton too, got my choice of breakfast, wings +wine but no crackers or bubly as a welcome gift. Then again, I’m only Platinum, not Titanium…
I look forwarding to gallivanting around the country with all of you. 😉
Another home run report Ricky. Thanks! Note to self: when checking into hotel add R.Zhang as second guest to see if there are any differences. Cheese platter or something.
Seems like Marriot is slightly better than Hilton by this report and what others have been saying. I’m originally from YVR as well so I’ll have to try Haidilao with the cousins. I’ve heard good things. Two thumbs up ?
I’d give it three thumbs up if I could. It’s my favourite hotpot chain from back in China and I often go there straight from the airport when I’m back to visit, so I was ecstatic that there was one in Canada (the Richmond location is the only one so far, but there’s another one in Toronto opening soon).
If you go, make sure to order the shrimp paste and the dancing noodles. They’ll know what you mean.
