Called today and the agent confirmed that cant piece meal segments together. Moreover, multi city booking within one zone are giving error. Was this change even communicated to members?

Reading on reddit/FB/FT that the mRTW is effectively dead as you can no longer feed segments to get an itinerary ticketed. Is this the end of an era? It would be interesting to follow up with your AC contact on the struggles everyone has had regarding trying to get a custom itinerary ticketed.

      I’m on the case.

Called in to make a change to an existing booking, and the rep said she is only able to book direct, and won’t be able to piece together segments. I know for a fact what I am looking at is not a married segment. Will hang up and call again, but it’s proving to be impossible given how swamped they are – automatic message ends the call given high volumes.

This is just another problem that the miles and points group will have to deal with. Time and time gain the powers that be will put up blockages to the community to try to prevent the valid use of points programmes to get a good deal. Then other people ( like the Prince) will figure out some way of maximizing the potential value in the plan. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but usually we win! Following the rules, you can often come out ahead. We all know that knowledge is power. Let’s face it, while the future is uncertain , we have all had a good ride and will have more in the future.

    Will this affect mRTW?

Nothing’s changing imminently, but as I mentioned, in the long run we may see a situation where “simple” itineraries that are returned like the search engine are those that are favorited. So a Mini-RTW with just two stops and maybe some surcharges? Sure. A Mini-RTW with 16 segments and 14 long layovers? Maybe not.

Yes, you won’t be able to make a mRTW. What you see online is what you get. It’s moving towards a simple round trip redemption platform.

Hi Ricky – Thanks for laying out the facts like you always do!

Wondering if you can help me here with some advice – i’m looking to book a mRTW for Oct 23 2020 – Nov 16 2020. The plan was to wait till Nov 29 2019 once all flights are available to book within the 355 day window. With a lot of uncertainty in the upcoming Amadeus switch, I’m thinking if it would be beneficial to call in and book on Nov 18, 2019 with a dummy return 355 days out(i.e Nov 8, 2020).

Then call back on Nov 29, 2019 to modify the return to be Nov 16, 2020, reaching my destination for Nov 18, 2020 – thereby keeping the ticket within the 1 year window?

    Appreciate your help! 🙂

If I was in your shoes, I would book it now and modify the return later

My contact also said mid November. She also unfortunately said their goal is to only be able to book the flights that are available online, like air miles. There’s no date for this to take effect, and hopefully they won’t, but they are working on it. The first step was to remove the formal Round the World trip. That’s not coming back. And without it, new agents are not being trained to do complex bookings. That’s why HUCA works, but over time, it will not.

It happening in 2 weeks. Heard it from an AC Rez rep this week.
