Now I really need a recommendation for a good wallet that can hold all these cards! (serious)
So, according to this Ricky has 8 US Amex cards – which isn’t possible given that you can only hold 5 at a time.
The Platinum and Business Platinum Cards are charge cards, not credit cards. Still, I do have 6 credit cards – the 5 credit card limit seems to be enforced most of the time, but not all of the time.
I am honestly amazed at how you guys are managing these many credit cards on both sides without missing a payment 🙂 I’m having 7 right now (3 Canada + 4 US), still under control but managing more than 5 isn’t really fun.
Just a suggestion: Credit Card Journey for temporary resident in Canada – which card to start, where to go next, and limitation. So far I know TD and Scotiabank don’t accept non-PR people (sad), CIBC allows 1 credit card only (not public but my CIBC representative told me so), and AmEx is best at welcoming everyone. Not sure if there are a lot of temporary resident reader here – raise your hand!
I’m non-PR and currently managing 9 cards. 4 Amex, 2 BMO, 1 CIBC, 1 RBC, 1 Capital one. I would suggest applying online or through an advisor, do not provide your SIN unless they ask for it.
Agree with this suggestion, Annie! Also, as a fellow non-PR, I’m amazed by the number of cards you have!
I honestly set events in my calendar to remind me of credit card payments 😀 Financial management apps like Mint are also very useful to keep track of all cards & bank accounts in one place
You should put this in a chart, so we can view at a glance 🙂 Interesting info!
Interesting none of you have the RBC British Airways card. The trans-Atlantic surecharges from British Airways are a drag, but the Avios points are great for use in Europe and Asia.
We’re absolutely in agreement about the utility of Avios, but I think we’ve all gone with the RBC Avion products for that purpose.
I’m with team Amy. I’m “flip” instead of the “flop” with TD biz AP/travel, etc. No Aspire card so no Waldorf … yet … Should I turn it on when baby is old enough to order? Ha!
What do you guys do with the 1099 Form?
I can’t speak for everyone, but personally – I open them.
how did Ricky get the offer to upgrade his cibc aeroplan infinite visa to privilege for extra points?
CIBC has rotating upgrade and product-switch offers from time to time that may be different from the public offer (they tend to move on monthly cycles). It’s always worth calling in to inquire if there are any switching bonuses if you’re considering making the switch. If not, and you don’t feel like keeping your current card for another year’s annual fee, you can always downgrade to one of the no-fee cards we mentioned and wait for a future upgrade offer.
oh man missed this comment…
Wow incredibly useful article 🙂
