Is There “Hidden” Air Canada eUpgrade Availability?

This is usual Air Canada will typically open up additional R space for O,Y,B booking classes although you booked Latitude Economy I doubt the booking class was either Y or B but you could confirm if that is the case

I don’t understand why it shows “Eligible for eUpgrade” then “Waitlist”.

It’s great that yours was confirmed but I’ve had it happen where it did not. It makes no sense to hunt down R space, and have AC confirm it’s eligible to only be waitlisted.

The wording seems straightforward but it’s anything but in my experience. Seems a little baity-and-switchy, no?

Interesting that sometimes it shows as waitlisted but actually confirms immediately. Does it show ans waitlisted when searching as well? Apart from available R space in Expert Flyer, do you have any tips on identifying those waitlisted routes that confirm immediately?

Don’t get too excited. This is an unusual AC route in that there is no direct flight between YYZ/YUL and EZE. It’s the flight to GRU that goes on to EZE. Air Canada’s eUps availability to other websites is rooted in the eUps for the segment to GRU, which AC is more stingy about. It wants to sell tickets all the way to EZE, and this special case will sometimes throw up these eUp incentives since the GRU-EZE segment is almost always light.

And the ATH-YYZ situation above isn’t really comparable since revenue tickets always have more eUps allocated than the reward tickets.

I booked a flight home on AC from Athens – YYZ in May and for Aeroplan reward searches it was not showing any eUpgrade availability. Then I booked one premium economy revenue ticket and used my companion pass for the 2nd ticket and then searched for business class upgrades and … presto they were available! They cleared right away. I assumed at the time they were holding back some eUps for revenue tickets over reward tickets, who knows??
