Hi Ricky-
How consistently do you achiever platinum elite status? Even with the auto gold from the amex card- 50 nights is still steep. Do you have any tricks on achieving 50 consistently? I have so far achieved it once (one of the good things that came out of the merger).
Great blog!
Pretty consistently these days. Check out my recent article on how to finesse your way to the 50 nights required for Platinum:

I think it will be tough to top this one Ricky. What a dream come true, talk about utmost luxury. I’m curious for when you said you picked the Suite Night Awards to get a one-category upgrade to a St. Regis Pool Suite, how many MR/SPG points did that cost you for that selection?
Hey Sue,
Suite Night Awards are one of the benefits you get when you reach Platinum Elite or Titanium Elite status. You get 5 SNAs when you reach each tier level. They allow you to confirm a suite upgrade up to five days in advance, rather than waiting to see if one is available upon check-in. I might write an article about them soon.
I love this. The many hotels are something to dream about, while the itineraries and the exotic locales push me to try to copy you. Thanks for the ideas, keep it up. I will continue to read about your adventures.
Reading this makes me seriously consider building my next trip around a not-yet-Category-8 property! Been to Bali already in 2013 but your review on the St. Regis makes me want to do a return trip.
Any other soon-to-be Cat 8s you think are especially worth considering? Any country. (Forgive me if you already have recommendations covered in another post.)
I’ll write a post soon about this!
Hi Ricky
I would be curious to know how many points you shelled out for this trip… Do you know how much you saved, what was the total value you got for your points?
Thanks!!
Back of the envelope calculations: 155,000 Aeroplan miles per person and 530,000 Marriott points. Total savings… maybe $12,000 for the flights (conservative) and ~$7,000 for the hotels?
Wheres the Asiana First Class Review! -.-
It’s been an agonizing wait, hasn’t it?
Video drops tomorrow. Full article next week.
