Have You Ever Called Off a Trip at the Last Minute?

As someone who never books far in advance, never books roundtrips (yes, that’s right, I bypass all mRTW opportunities) and who occasionally dumps itineraries days before the travel date…

    Ain’t flexibility grand?

There’s actual pleasure in gazing off the terrace on Day6 at the cruise ships moored in a certain bay on the Andaman, knowing that I haven’t yet decided when to leave. And I don’t need to decide.

With sufficient stash in multiple programs, I can jump on LH F and fly back to North America impromptu when it seems appealing.

If you’re still in the workforce, this is what retirement looks like, if you’re in this game. What’s not to like?

DenB, you never fail to amaze me with your vivid descriptions of the sheer joys that Miles & Points bring you. Long may it continue!

For newbies: never underestimate the value of a sked change. When booking months in advance, you can almost guarantee the airline will have a sked change and it could entitle you to not only a free change, but a cancellation and refund of your points and fees, if you prefer.

My wife was sort of the same. After a fantastic honeymoon in Maldives, she got very into the idea of another tropical escape. So when we found out we were pregnant, Bora Bora was booked for the babymoon.

However as she got more into her pregnancy, her comfort and energy levels declined. Ultimately going from YYZ to Conrad Bora Bora for a week was too rushed for her and simply not worth it, especially with the secluded exceptional luxury of Park Hyatt Maldives still fresh in her mind.

I obviously had a great time, but it was disappointing to see that she didn’t enjoy it as much and that a non-fancy trip somewhere closer would have been preferable to her.

In hindsight we should have done Bora Bora a few years after Maldvies rather than rushing to tick it off our list. Sometimes rushed luxury trips so close together doesn’t let you fully appreciate that you’re getting an experience so many other people will never get to have.

    Happy New Year!
