Question: Have the 787 Dreamliners been taken out of service with Air Canada right now?
No, they’re still flying as far as I’m aware.
Ricky
You are truly the Jedi master. What a masterfully planned trans canada trip! Truly outdone yourself! Bravo
Hi Ricky, are you sure you will earn points and night credits on the Hilton stay? I thought bookings through third parties did not qualify per Hilton t&c’s.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work the same as Marriott (see my response to Andre below). If not, however, I don’t mind too much, since I’ve already got Diamond status from the Hilton Aspire Card, and the hotel has confirmed that I’m eligible to use my Diamond benefits.
Well I can confirm the rate does qualify, just completed a 1 night stay at the YVR Hilton, got diamond benefits (but no room upgrade) and points posted 24 hrs after checkout. Have 2 more one night stays on the 11th and 13th to go towards the double nights credit to roll over to next year. Too bad the AMEX gift card deal ended. Breakfast is good, but I did not stay overnight – only live about 10 minute drive away.
Happy to hear that, I’m checking into the Hilton tomorrow 🙂
A $200 junior suite night, less a $125 credit, less $50 off of a $200 US spend, plus 10x spend points for Marriott US card, plus 2,500 Marriott bonus points, plus elite night credits and (almost forgot) breakfast included. WOW. The golden age of travel…..how long can it last.

Loving all this Saskatoon hype. Keep it coming.
Hey Ricky I’ve got two questions. Will one receive up to 3 credit cards if he changes hotels every night during the Stay Richmond promo and two, should someone choose to do 3 different bookings at Marriott hôtels dors one also get the Marriott 2500 points per Stay (and the 5000 bonus after 3 stats) thru the Stay Richmond promo ? I thought only bookings made thru Marriott’s website or app were eligible. Isn’t Stay Richmond a third party here ?
Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Technically third-party bookings aren’t eligible for Marriott points/nights/benefits, but in the case of the Stay Vancouver / Stay Richmond promotions, it’s more like they’re making reservations directly with Marriott on your behalf, so when you add the elite number it shows up in your account/app just like a normal reservation.
Here’s a recent trip report by Nick from Distant Points on his stay at the Westin YVR: https://www.distantpoints.com/travelblog/westin-wall-centre-vancouver-airport-review
Saskatoon is lovely and the Bessborough is perfectly located for a walk alongside the river. If you are up for a long walk, walk north on the path behind the Bess and keep going until you get to the dam (pelicans!) and walk up to the top of the staircase and then across the river, and then southbound along the river bank until you get to Broadway Avenue. From there you can either wander up Broadway Ave for lunch, or back down the bridge to the hotel. Also the Mendel Art Gallery is a stunning building and a 15 minute walk in the other direction, also along the river. Enjoy!
Thanks for the recommendations! Always up for a long walk. 🙂
Another Saskatoon Restaurant recommendation. Check out the Golden Pagoda Burmese for some authentic Burmese cuisine. The food is amazing and the owner has some amazing stories to tell.
Thanks Joel, another friend had recommended this place too. Definitely going to stop by.
You must try Ayden Kitchen and Bar in Saskatoon. The owner won Top Chef Canada in 2011 — it’s fantastic. Service was amazing — I highly recommend it. Saskatoon is a very pretty town, walking distance to everything from the Sheraton Cavalier where I used to stay. Take a nice long stroll along the river and be sure to pick up some hand made chocolates from Hayden and Huyse while you are there. Have a great trip 🙂
All these Saskatoon recommendations have got me even more thrilled to visit than before. Thanks Joy!
Air Canada runs the 787-9/333 between Calgary and Toronto too in the summer, typically.
I wasn’t aware of the free change preserving the 50% back. I assume you mean as long as it was booked before July 1 and that the travel dates remain before Oct 13? You can’t move this to 2021 and still get 50% back?
Yes, the travel dates must remain before Oct 13. Furthermore, you’ll only get 50% back of the award you originally booked, not the award that you change to (in case you change to a more expensive award, like economy to business, short-haul to long-haul, etc.)
hey – was this posted anywhere? i upgraded to business because availability opened up. when i changed the agent assured me i would get the 50% rebate on the business fare.
It isn’t posted anywhere, just what the agent told me (and a few others who rebooked). But it sounds like some agents have been saying it’s based on the new booking, as you’ve found.
Let me try to get some answers.
Saskatoon is a very pretty city. I went to University there many moons ago. I suggest you visit the University as it has a big influence on the city. It is across the river from the Bess.
I definitely plan to spend some time exploring the campus, thanks Leigh!
