workfromhyatt is also another option if you live near the property. potentially cheaper rate.

Been travel hacking for the past 10 years so I’m the old fogey here. LOL! my first luxury hotel experiences were with Hyatt when they use to give Hyatt Diamond like candy back in the days. I was a Diamond for 3 years straight which motivated me to try out all the major Hyatts of the world. Fast forward to today and Ive now had top tier status with every hotel chain. I have to tell you that nothing….like absolutely nothing came close to the amazing treatment and experiences I had as a Hyatt diamond. From the amazing breakfast at the Park Hyatt Seoul and the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong to the palatial upgrade at the Palacio Duhuao in Buenos Aires and the presidential suite at the Grand Hyatt Santiago and to the incredible new suites overlooking the main square at the Park Hyatt Vienna and the Park Hyatt Zurich….the memories were simply amazing. No other hotel chain even comes close in my opinion. One of the big things that made Hyatt stand out compared to the rest is the focus on cuisine….the food at Hyatt hotels were by far superior in terms of quality and service.

Your making a great choice Ricky!…..its well worth it and with the new Park Hyatt opening in Toronto, its even more exciting! Im even thinking of possibly doing this to rekindle my Hyatt days….Ill see you at breakfast at the Michelin Stared Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt Washington DC 😉

Close to home, I’ve heard great things about the Andaz Ottawa (although go after the pandemic, as the best part of it: breakfast, is currently scaled down). Andaz London is also amazing and Toronto and Montreal may soon have their own. The brand has “all inclusive” snacks and non alcoholic drinks in the room’s mini-bar, as well as a free wine happy hour each night (though not during covid).

I haven’t tried any Alila’s yet, but everyone loves Big Sur and they recently made it all inclusive, which is a great value on points.

100% giving the Andaz a go next time I’m in the capital, and I’m looking forward to trying the Toronto one too, which is slated to open around 2022 I think. I haven’t heard about a Montreal Andaz in the pipeline – got any further intel on that?

Alilas look absolutely beautiful, I must say. It’s very exciting to have so many new brands to look forward to.

Forget where I heard the rumor about Andaz Montreal but a nice Hyatt is needed there since they reflagged the Regency to a Hilton. Think they’re getting a Hyatt Place airport hotel.

Also you might want to consider a side trip to Oman next time you’re in Dubai, once the second Alila opens. Can sample them both.

Some other properties to highlight are some nice category 4s: Gild Hall in Manhattan and the Confidante in Miami Beach. Good places to blow that free certificate, along with hotels in Chicago and San Diego that recently came down to category 4.

The PH Toronto will be a category 4. Doesn’t get any easier for Ricky :p.

Now denoted as a Cat 6 on the app 🙁

            1. Ricky YVR

Well isn’t that just highway robbery. 😉 Looking forward to giving it a try once it reopens to see if Category 6 is justified.

            2. Jay*

Not surprising. To be a Cat 4 for a PH in YYZ seemed too good to be true.

Also, don’t forget that staying preferentially at Hyatts as opposed to Marriotts over the next couple years means that you will have to work harder, and potentially do mattress runs to maintain Marriott elite status. I barely finesse my way to Marriott platinum status every year, and this is the factor that ultimately made me decide that the Globalist run wasn’t a good fit for me.

    1. Ricky YVR

Great point Alan, and it goes back to the fact that if you already have status with Marriott and Hilton, you do need to be in a bit of a privileged position where you can allocate some of the Marriott stays to Hyatt as a means of diversification.

Anyone need help checking into Calgary’s Hyatt? I may be able to help.:)

If the card gives you 10 nites then you only need 20 elite nights or 10 paid stays to get to 30? Takes price down to around $76×10 plus taxes. Great deal imo.

    1. Ricky YVR

Absolutely. Furthermore as Sam pointed out, if you’re able to spend US$15,000 on the card in 2021, that earns you six additional elite nights plus a Category 1–4 certificate, so now you’re looking at around $76×7 plus taxes.

personally, when visiting asia, i am a fan of the grand hyatt brand. They have some really nice hotels in the big asian cities.

Don’t forget too that if you apply for Chase WoH Visa by Dec 31 you’ll earn 10 nights towards elite status in 2021. If you spend $15,000 you earn your C1-4 certificate and 6 additional elite nights.

    1. Ricky YVR

Yes this is a great point. I hadn’t included it at first as I personally won’t be applying until April, but I’ve now added it to the analysis for anyone considering getting the WoH card before year-end.

“All members can earn 3X points for every qualifying stay (up to 150,000 Bonus Points)”

Will members earn 8x or 15x per dollar during this time period?

    1. Ricky YVR

      As I understand it, 15x.

I would recommend Alila Villas Uluwatu. Currently have quite a few properties speculatively booked (seems like most of the ones that interest you as well, based on the cities you mentioned). Waiting to see what the country restrictions will be like in 2021.

    1. Ricky YVR

See you around at some of the Park Hyatts. Did you feel the need to book speculatively due to award availability restrictions or simply to lock in a cash rate?

      1. Jay*

        Award availability restrictions.
