Australia at a cultural, architectural, and societal level is too similar to Canada. I don’t understand why Canadians are inclined to travel to a destinstion that barely offers anything new. Sure the beaches and outdoorsy activities are fun but there are so many better destinations that offer more than that.

That said it’s a great 5-6 hour hop for ppl in South East Asian countries and a great destination for them.

I would personally never waste my time or miles to travel there unless it was for work.

I tend to agree with you here. It was interesting to note the comparisons, but if I were pressed for time and wanted to choose somewhere exciting to go, Australia wouldn’t be near the top of my list.

Nevertheless, if I have to go there in order to stretch the value of my miles further and travel to more far-flung places along the way (as was the case on this trip and will be next time), then I’ll be happy to do so 🙂

I’m pretty much in this camp. New Zealand has dazzled me since the Lord of the Rings movies. Breathtaking beautiful. But I can get the same with the Canadian Rockies. However, if it means awesome Asian lounges and airlines to get there, then that is as much the trip as the destination. In the end, I don’t think I’ll ever get down there. And I’m okay with that.
