Use Uber in Cairo – about half the price of normal taxis. Also a bus goes between terminals and a bus depot that goes into town for very cheap.
how can we contact your driver Khalid as the link directing not found page.
appreciate if you can provide as we do have 16hours layover (landing in cario around 6am and departing at 10:40pm).
Do we still need to take the hotel as per the evisa checklist?
Also i am getting contradicting information about visa requirements for layover passengers.
Can any one confirm the authenticity of the below information
“Passengers with between 6 and 48 hours to wait between flights can leave the airport and explore the area without a visa. A valid onward flight ticket is required.

Just got back from Cairo, Immigration do not have a clue about the 48hour no visa window. we even checked with a couple of ‘supervisors & managers. Get an evisa
Thanks MACCS for the feedback.
So its pretty much no go for free visa or free hotel like turkey 🙂
So in the end you ended up buying with $25 USD visa right? do you have to go to the counter or the immigration folks took and stamped the visa?
how long is your layover and how fast were you out after landing ?
Also, have you taken the tour from the airport or arranged by your self in advance?
Kindly share any necessary details and/or contact info of the driver.
Sorry guys, p2 and i both replied
We arrived at 7am, no one in immigration. We went straight through once I found the visa at the Travelers Choice counter. It is on the right as you look at immigration desks. Ensure you have cash. USD25. Better still, get evisa before you go.
We had a 19 hour layover and used our hotel to organise the tour. Our guide was fantastic….. shereifnasr@yahoo.co.uk
Take small denomination egytian pounds for tips. 5 egp is only 34cents. Hope that helps
Thank you for the Guide info.
May i know why you took the hotel as i am thinking of going straight to pyramids after freshing up at the lounge (flying biz class anyways) to avoid the traffic.
May i also know what attraction you have visited apart from the pyramids within the 19hours layover and how much you have paid to this tour/guide.
So far i am inclined towards getting VOA instead of evisa as i wanted to give it a try free layover visa if i am lucky by showing the screenshot.
But i wont be wasting time if they decline.
Feel free to send me the details thru email (mkannuri@yahoo.com) incase if you are not comfortable about some details of your itinerary.
once again thank you.
UPDATE: forgot to update, ended up taking their free hotel and free visa option. it took almost 3 hours since i landed to check into the hotel. its big mess as they have waited for all the passengers from different flights during that window. the hotel, food is very nice.. ended up taking a taxi to visit the pyramids and returned back and flew again in the night.
overall its good value even if you dont wanted to visit the pyramids and rest in the hotel and go into the city centre for a stroll.
I think 1-2 hours is plenty for Giza (at the actual site). Earlier this year my wife and I saw Giza during a 9.5hr Cairo layover. We were not rushed, and had enough time to get our driver to stop to buy some flat bread from a street vendor (1EGP per large piece) and some yogurt (zabadi).
Before the trip, I searched for packages including a driver to/from the airport, but couldn’t find anything. I found the haggling at the airport for a driver rather exhausting. Tourists seem to be treated like marks, with the goal being to extract as much money from them as possible.
THat is one of my bucket list items as well.
Very good review as always – that seems like a fair price for this comprehensive tour.
