Thanks for the Article! I’m flying Air Canada – Toronto to LAX with my ESA dog (9lbs) I’m confused about if she needs to be in a carrier in the airport or on a leash/in my arms? My therapist included the “needs to be on lap” option on the Air Canada form for during the flight but Pearson airport doesn’t have anything about ESA just Service animals. Thanks!!

If you have been approved for travel with your ESA, then he/she doesn’t need to be in a carrier at the airport (but on a leash for sure). Keep your ESA documents handy just in case an airport employee asks for them. You can also access lounges with your ESA.

Etihad won’t let my service dog in the cabin because of AE regulations. They explicitly break the regulations set by DOT in America for a flight operating into the US.

Any tips on bringing a medium sized dog in cabin when they’re under 12 weeks of age? Which airline is best for this?

Hi CR! It looks like WestJet accepts pets in cabin older than 8 weeks. As long as the pup fits within the pet in cabin guidelines you should be good to go. Info can be found here under the ‘Conditions for Acceptance’ tab: https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/travel-info/pets

Leave your mutt at home, nothing worse than having to sit next to it and smell its piss and s**t all the flight long

Worse yet, what if you’re allergic and have to sit next to it? Or in the near vicinity.

I took my Yorkie with me from Calgary to Moncton with a connection in Toronto. He fit under the seat with no problem. We got some looks because he started to cry a bit because he was in his kennel and he could see us. We covered the front of the kennel and once the engines revved up he went to sleep for the entire flight. The funny thing was when we transferred in Toronto we were called up and allowed to board first like people with children. lol

Thanks for the comment Dean! My brother just flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Vancouver via Seoul with his cat. Apparently it meowed the entire time so he didn’t have the same relaxing experience as you. There were only 20 people in the cabin though so no one was bothered 🙂
