Unfortunately it sounds like sweet spot #6 ( Bangkok Airways) has been devaluated and not worth it anymore. I called Etihad twice this week and two different agents told me that a one way economy from USM to BKK is now 15K instead of 5K (HKT to USM is 10K). Add to that the conversion rate from Amex MR and we’re now talking significant points.
Hi Ricky. I’m considering transferring 27K Amex MR points to Ethihad (equivalent to 20K) for two one way economy tickets for two (HKT-USM and later USM-BKK). I’m assuming that I need to create and Ethihad account (with no miles), call the Ethihad support center, and that they would look for availability even though I don’t have any miles yet?

I was happy to do an Etihad apartments flight from AUH-JFK a couple of years ago when they were all the rage (On AA). I was happy to do it and in general enjoyed myself but I wouldn’t fly it again. It’s nice and pretty innovative, but not the most comfortable. Service and amenities were hit and miss.

I’m intrigued by the Royal Air Maroc option using Etihad. If I want to fly to Amman, Jordan, can I do a stop over in Casablanca or Marrakech before heading to Amman?
Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Etihad allows stopovers on partner redemptions (though I’d love to be proven wrong). A 24-hour layover might work, though.
