I am looking forward to your 2019 Miles & Points Action Plan.

Hey, love the blog.
How do i find a meetup in Vancouver? Cheers!
Join the /r/churningcanada Reddit group, where people occasionally organize meetups in their local area. Also, follow some Vancouver-based blogs because they also do reader meetups every now and then.
Just wondering, which ones are Vancouver-based blogs? Love your site, by the way! Definitely the most easy to read and helpful.
Thanks Elle! Smart Travel Hacking (smarttravelhacking.com) is an example
Hi Ricky,
Is the Amex platinum business bonus point 75K or 40K as seen on Amex website?
Thanks
Kevin
40K if you apply through the public offer on the Amex website, 75K if you apply through a referral link. Needless to say, use a referral link!
Hi Ricky,
I am trying to figure out how you get 4 first class trips and a first class to Hong Kong for $3743.00 and the 70,000 miles from the revenue ticket. I cant get it to add up. Haha!
Also the add on to Johannasburg it seems can only be booked in Business class right? No wonder i couldnt find availability in first!
Thank you as always,
Marlene
Yes the JNB flight is only business.
That statement works out as follows: for the $3800 you would’ve gotten a First Class ticket on Emirates YYZ-DXB-MXP round trip. So that’s four flights in Emirates First. Then, by crediting those flights to Alaska Mileage Plan, you would’ve earned at least 70,000 miles, which would be enough for a one-way flight in First/Business to South Africa on Cathay Pacific.
Hope that clears it up!
Which cards can be referred from the amex bussiness platinum to earn the 25,000 referral bonus?
I just discovered your blog and I love it! My parents and I are huge points collectors (and spenders). I was able to get 75,000 points on signing up for my AMEX business platinum through a referral with the first year fee waived. I’ll have to change it to something else this June and your article will help me decide!
Thanks! I’m curious how you were able to get the Amex Business Platinum with the first year fee waived. Care to share?
Hello Ricky,
Just wondering is that a good way to use UGO Canada as one way to MS?
Thanks,
Hi Ricky,
I was wondering about the 1st class to Hong Kong with the extension to South Africa using Alaska miles of 70,000. Do you mean flying into Johannasburg? I want to get back to Nairobi using 70,000 Alaska miles but it doesnt seem possible. What mileage chart can i use to find availability for these Alaska flights with Cathay! Alaska rep told me I cant look it up anywhere that only she can. I dont think I believe that! Haha!
Yes, you can only fly to Johannesburg using that redemption since Cathay only flies to Johannesburg in Africa (although word on the street is that they are adding nonstop flights to Cape Town soon as well).
Use the British Airways website to search for Cathay Pacific availability, then call in to Alaska to book. Note, however, that sometimes Alaska might see less availability than what you see on BA.com.
Thanks for yet another great posts Ricky. It’s too bad the American Express Gold Rewards Card is no longer part of the old referral group. I just applied and got approved for the Business Platinum Card using your link.
I initially received this message:
Thank you for choosing American Express. We are unable to give you an instant decision at this time. Your application will be processed within 10 days.
ANY QUESTIONS?
Call 1-888-721-1044 and quote reference number: XXXXXXXXX
I called and after verifying my information, I was told that the application was processed and I was already approved.
If it’s any encouragement to others, I was approved with a creditkarma/transunion score of 650-670. Not sure why it’s so low, despite having excellent credit utilization (3%), credit history, and payment record (0 late payments).
Thanks for the great content, Ricky. It was also great meeting you at PointsU in Calgary. Will be in touch over the rest of the year to see what else you are up to!
Thanks for continuing to provide such awesome content. I just wanted to let you know that the RBC Visa Infinite 25,000 point offer appears to be dead now. I’ve tried to apply (using a few different browsers) and it will let me input all of my information but when I try to hit submit, either nothing happens or the button is greyed out.
