    Very disappointed with these changes.
    Metal? I don’t care.

What I do care about is the DEVALUATION for everyday spending. Most of the spend I put on this card does not fall under the two special categories. So I’m being screwed over.

It boggles the mind that Amex doesn’t have a TRAVEL card with no FOREX fee..

you state "3 MR points per dollar spent on dining", however the image below shows 3 MR points per dollar spent on dining IN CANADA. is that a typo?

    1. Ricky YVR

You’ll only earn 3 MR points at Canadian dining establishments. I’ve added that language to the article and to the Platinum Card’s page. Cheers!

This is not "Canada’s First Metal Credit Card"… RBC has had a metal version of their Avion Infinite Privilege Visa card for Private Banking customers for several years. It’s s Black with gold font and a textured monochome background pattern.

Thanks for that Mike. Shall we say the first "widely available" metal card then? Yes, let’s say that…

I’m not impressed, way below US platinum. I’m disappointed with AMEX Canada, my Gold Amex has slipped way down in useage for me, my Visa infinite privilege card is now my clear #1. Amex Canada needs an overhaul.

amex website says 50,000 its not 60,000 – can you confirm?

    1. Ricky YVR

60k via referral, 50k via the public offer on the website.

Thanks, Ricky. You mention churning the Platinum card. I thought that avenue was now closed in Canada. Insights?

What’s the details on the ability to churning the Platinum card? I thought you could only get the signup bonus for each card once.

    2. Ricky YVR

Nope, it’s very much well and alive!

This is such a big disappointment.
Essentially the Canadian platinum card remains the same garbage card.
I really couldn’t care less what material a card is made out of.
I want actual meaningful benefits like no foreign transaction fees, better airline transfer partners/ratios, and higher multipliers for a more diverse set of categories.
Amex Canada is really not on top of their game.

  8. BMG

How about somewhat parity on airline partners with the US Amex? ANA please!

I can’t believe Amex spent money on marketing and metal card production and that is all there is. They sell this card as their ultimate "travel card" yet there is not one new tangible travel benefit. Maybe making a special 1:1 transfer option to Delta (or introduce more airline partners) would be enough for excitement. As well, when is the last time you handed a card to someone for payment? It’s either insert or tap (as well as google and apple pay). And I don’t see a restaurant going silent with envy if a piece of metal happens to drop on the table. Sorry to burst your bubble all you millennials. Give us at least 5x earning rate on this "travel card". No Forex on this "travel card". A high school marketing class could put together a better package than this. There is no renewal in my future.

I think you nailed it. It seems like such a half hearted effort. Real rewards and no FX.
