Any DP’s on how long it actually takes for the status to hit after meeting the requirements? I recently have completed the challenge and have been holding off on my North American AP redemptions until this takes effect. The t&c’s say up to 4 weeks and I’m hoping it will take effect faster.
So, just running this by you as it would seem to make sense. Would it be possible to match United silver to WestJet silver to Air Canada 25K? Preferably without actually flying on WestJet, as they really don’t fly where we want to go.
Sounds like it would work!
Hi Ricky, unrelated but please could you tell me…. if I book an RBC rewards flight on AC do I get the same AQD as if i had booked it through AC website direct? Working on SE status and need those AQD. Thanks if you can help! Caro
Hi Ricky, do you know if there is an deadline of sending out that screenshot email? My Westjet Silver expires 2020-01-31. Trying to push back as all the current foreseeable travelling plans have been booked with non-Air Canada flights 🙁
No deadline as far as I’m aware, but I hear that this status challenge opportunity has actually been around for quite a few years, so perhaps there’s no need to rush.
Is there anyway to get Westjet status now?
May be by switching to a RBC Westjet card from an RBC Avion?
I have upcoming trip to Asia booked via expedia for TD. It has two AC segments in each direction. Will this be eligible?
I believe so, since ExpediaforTD bookings are basically treated as cash bookings. Just remember to attach your Aeroplan # to your booking.
Thanks Ricky!
Hello Ricky. Thank you for your blog. One thing i just confirm to Air Canada is that Econ-basic (class A from your YYZ-YUL-YQB flight) will not earn AQS. More details are as follows from https://www.aeroplan.com/earn_miles/our_partners/partner_details.do?Partner=AirCanada#/
"Earning" tab
Bob
You raise a good point: Economy Basic fares don’t earn AQS. However, not all "A" fares are Economy Basic – if you look at the link you provided you’ll see that many Standard fares are also "A" class, which do earn 1 AQS per flight. You’ll need to verify during the booking process whether you’re booking Economy Basic or not, and it should be pretty clear if you are.
Yep. I think the most simple rule is, if I can accumulate aeroplan miles from such flight, it counts as AQS. Otherwise, it will not.
Anyone have an idea of whether AC-operated segments booked through United would count? I have a trip coming up that has two segments operated by AC, but the ticket was booked through United.
As long as it’s operated by Air Canada, it should count as AQS.
Any sense of whether Porter status will be matched to anything?
Definitely worth sending an email to try, since WestJet had matched from VIPorter earlier this year too.
Just as a follow up. I submitted WestJet silver and Porter Priority and was given the 25k challenge…so looks like Porter doesn’t get you anywhere.
Or perhaps it would’ve also gotten you the 25k challenge on its own, who knows?
I like the sound of this. Does anyone know if having Altitude Prestige 25k status in 2020, will allow me to book Aeroplan reward flights in 2021 while avoiding the YQ?
I would imagine so, since it depends on your elite status as of the time of booking.
Anyone know if you meet the silver challenge, would you receive a credit/rebate on fuel surcharges for future flights that you have already booked ? Timbo2
Doubtful. I believe it only kicks in if you’re an elite member as of the time of booking.
