Everyone sets their eyes on the St. Regis and overlook the other Marriott properties. Looking forward to your review, have fun Ricky!

I have already done my once in a lifetime trip to the Maldives on points. For me it was part of a mini round the world with 6 days at the Park Hyatt. Well I just booked my second one for next January return to Park Hyatt. So I can assure you you will be back for a second once in a lifetime trip to the Maldives . Costs once there are huge but worth every penny. You will be back have a great trip.

Ricky, once again you are a whiz with how you navigate the points award business and book such tantalizing itineraries.
Are you able/ willing to share the contact info of your Virtuoso agent?

  4. TKT

A Maldives redemption to the St. Regis was the exact reason I started the game! We had a similar itinerary as you on the outbound, but flew back to YVR via HKG rather than going through LHR. You’re gonna have an unforgettable time – we sure did! Looking forward to the reviews.

How did you manage to buy the n95 masks? They’re sold out everywhere I looked 🙁

    1. Ricky YVR

      I needed a hospital hook-up for these.

      1. Frank

Just remember that N95 masks have to be fit-tested for each person to make sure they are working properly. And even then, they are not meant to be worn for a long period of time. I’ve had to wear them for work sometimes and I get a bit light-headed from the reduced oxygen supply!

Take this with a grain of salt from someone that is old and conservative….but IMO you are young and likely will spend the rest of your life being paid to travel, why would you risk that 0.00001% chance of coming in contact with this unknown virus instead of just making this trip in the future hundreds of opportunities to do so? Bit of a head scratcher, but that is just me.

    1. Ricky YVR

If we assume that 0.00001% chance, then I’d be silly to leave my house every day because of the 0.00001% chance of getting into a car accident as well, wouldn’t I?

The truth is that none of us know the true odds here, and can only make our own best judgments on whether to live our lives or allow fear to hold us back.

      1. Mike

Exactly. Such an overblown situation. Travelling to asia now was awesome, no tourists 😉

Are you sure that photo of the EY 787 isn’t business class? Do they have more than one configuration? I’m sure its a larger suite with a door rather than the "business studio" shown

    1. Ricky YVR

Oh yes, that was the Business Studio pic. It is indeed a larger suite with a door.

  8. Craig

Ricky, sounds like a great trip! Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you say to “[enlist] the help of a friend with Air Canada Super Elite status” either to dial in or, in this case to reduce the fuel surcharges. Can you expand on that? Does this friend have to book the tickets in your name with their miles (nice friend), or is there an angle I’m missing. Cheers!

    1. Richard

Thanks for your question and your astute reply and Ricky’s confirmation. I had that same question.

    2. Craig

May have answered my own question, assuming the answer is that the SE100 friend books the trip for you and you then transfer your MR to their Aeroplan. . . Or is there something more to it? I’m new to Amex, so hard to think outside of a completely siloed solely Aeroplan approach.

      1. Ricky YVR

        Sounds about right!

  9. Mitch

    Maldives, so hot right now.

    Dear Nomadic_on_Points,

Did you visit someone else’s blog to boast about your own incompetence and indecisiveness of visiting a place several time’s and then wonder why you went there?! You also seem to follow PoT so closely creeping on his instagrams posts.
Forget meaningful careers for a moment and focus on a meaningful post for once.Stop being jealous and move along.
We can all clearly see who’s the loser…

  11. HL

Wow, Nomadic on Points…you seem like a real gem of a person. I just shake my head when I read people talk in a tone like that.. Everyone has a different travel style…there is no right or wrong way. Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

And if you don’t like his IG, then don’t follow. Simple as that.

  12. Nomadic_on_Points

Decent trip, although its a shitload of points and money for what I feel like is an overrated destination….$1000 CAD per person just for the 30 minute seaplane transfer….ouch! been there 4 times, and everytime Im there, I feel like I got suckered by the bloggers that always rave about it….my wife and I look at each other and say, "why did we come this far when the Caribbean basically gives us just as awesome beaches"……

but I do understand if you’ve never been….you have to experience it at least once in your life to make your own determination…..

JW looks awesome, but never been…..we’ve been to all the 3 hotel chains (Park Hyatt, St.Regis, Conrad) and from my experience, the Hilton properties offer elites way more than Marriott including a happy hour that helps lessen the food bill…..the new Waldorf Astoria looks amazing as well……Sebby’s videos from there looked epic

your flights back dont make much sense and seem very inconvenient…..although, I absolutely love the apartments (I have 6 apartment flights booked this year alone because I find availability on the JFK-AUH route to be very very good), flying to London just to try them out and then flying right back to Canada seems retarded…..you could have easily flown straight from the Maldives to Montreal on Qsuites for way less points and way more convenience……but I guess when you dont have meaningful careers, time is plentiful

Cant wait for your loser instagram poses in the apartments…..

    1. Mike

You’ve been to the Maldives 0 times and have no apartment flights booked, obvious troll.

    2. Esther

So you’ve been 4 times (meaning you willingly went back 3 times), yet you decide to shit on Ricky for checking off a bucket list item?

      Quit your rambling.

    3. Mark

Ok boomer, don’t go destroying the period button with your Parkinson’s now…….

  13. Mer

Pack those instant noodles! Food is a huge cost, but well worth it. I’ve always looked to see if they offer half or full board or some sort of free dining credits with my bookings for MLE.

    1. Ricky YVR

We’re definitely loading up on those 出前一丁s at HKG!

  14. Shayaan

Glad everything worked out with the CX flights. Maybe we’ll even see you at the JW in March!

  15. Jay

    Long overdue 😉 enjoy!

This looks like an amazing trip! A great use of points to visit an island that most of us would love to visit someday. If climate warming increases the sea levels, these islands may disappear.
I think that the fear of death from the corona virus is a little overdone. However, getting sick from it is more and more likely.
I hear in the US, sales of Corona beer have dropped off because people fear catching the virus from it. !!??
