Re: capsule hotels; I’d recommend 9hours Shinjuku.
Felt very "sterile" but was great and definitely gave me the capsule hotel experience I was after!
Thanks Mike. 9hours Shinjuku it is – excellent location too.
Ricky ! ~
Your journey / blog is inspiring and has allowed me and my friends to enjoy exceptional travel experiences that would not have been possible without your tips / advice.
Don’t listen to the haters !
To be honest, what you are doing as a travel influencer / social media personality is actually much more difficult than falling back on a traditional desk job (of which I am certain you can return to at any time).
Creating original content and communicating that content with your audience is infinitely more difficult than some others may have imagined – huge props !
My friends and I are all working in professional fields and we all have a huge amount of respect for your work. It’s clear that you are an intelligent and astute individual. If I was ever building out a team / company, you are definitely a guy I’d want on board.
Cheers !
Thanks for the kind words Jonathan! 🙂
@Jessy: please don’t feel you need to defend Ricky. Don’t let people with "careers" or "full time" jobs knock you down. We, as a community, need your BF to keep writing! Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated! 😉
Infinitely proud of you and everything you do, baby. Thank you for working so hard always, and for helping me create a life full of adventures.
Hey Ricky, looks like an incredible trip!
How do you actually go about using a friend’s 100k super elite account to waive surcharge fuels?
See my response to Geoff below. One way is to have the SE friend loan you the miles and you’ll repay them later with another booking; another is to transfer your MR points directly to the friend’s account. Either way, the SE friend simply makes the Aeroplan booking in your name directly from their account.
Responding to NoP and Aeroman. I don’t understand where the NoP comment is coming from and agree with Aeroman. It IS a great blog and, I’d add, it is a career – just not the type we of the pre-internet age are accustomed to. My husband and I are professionals (lawyers) in our late fifties and follow the blog religiously – Ricky is a very talented and engaging writer. He’s also enriched our travels. Jessy DID find a gem!
Don’t forget about the recently opened W Aspen, second ski resort in the W brand. Not exactly “capsule” hotel (the experience is fun) but HND has a in-terminal “cabin”, happens to have a airline theme and a onsen as well.
Oh very true. I’d like to make it there eventually too, but I wasn’t overly impressed with the initial reviews (and the Marriott hotels in Aspen seem to have quite a bitter attitude about points-paying guests).
Oh it’s noticeable regarding the attitude. Nevertheless my status was recognized and got a suite upgrade during my stay so I didn’t let their attitude phase me. Never a dull moment people watching with the particular clientele staying at Str Aspen during peak ski season ;).
Following up on the previous question, I have a friend who is Super Elite but how do I transfer my MR points to his aeroplan? I do transfers between mine and P2s aeroplan account and vice-versa, but I though the last name and address had to match. Do I simply call up Amex and have them link my friend’s aeroplan account to my MR account?
Why don’t you get a real job or at least further your education? You really think this amateur blog is going to sustain your life or are you just going to live in a shitty ass apartment in Montreal your entire life? At least ur girlfriend is getting her masters and advancing her career, while her loser boyfriend continues to teach people to scam credit cards and fly around the world for no reason???
reminds me of the days when I thought I was so cool backpacking around the world, staying in hostels and thinking that I was living the life without the need of school or a career, except I was fucking 20 years old at the time! thank god I shaped up quickly
Wow Jessy! even though you obviously have him whipped, you really found yourself an absolute gem here
Okay boomer – all that ‘education’ still can’t teach you manners and respect, such a shame.
@Ricky – keep up the great work!
Respect to you Ricky for allowing this kind of comment – I know I wouldn’t!
I’m not one to stand in the way of those who choose to humiliate themselves publicly for our entertainment 😉
stop being such a hater man. He’s doing what most people want to do, see the world. Nobody ever sat on their deathbed wishing they had travelled less and worked more.
Oooooh the fragility of masculinity where one believes that being a good man who cares about their partner’s wants and needs equates to being whipped.
Love your blog Ricky.
Someone is jealous lmao
Okay Boomer… It’s not your life, so why do you care what other people choose to do, it has absolutely zero impact on your life. Besides, if you feel so strongly about this, why are you wasting your precious time reading this blog?
Rickly – love your blog, keep up the great work.
Wow someone is certainly jealous. Keep up the great blog Ricky.
How does a friend with SE100k help you avoid fuel surcharges in your booking? Are they “loaning” you Aeroplan points by booking through their account and you book for them later to pay them back?
That’s one way to do it. Another is to transfer one’s MR points to one’s friend’s Super Elite Aeroplan account.
Thanks for answering! Makes sense. 🙂
