Timely review. I have an AMEX platinum that I feel that I am no longer reaping full benefits from since my CIBC VISA Infinite Privilege Aeroplan card got a major overhaul. I tend to travel on AC domestically and internationally, so North American access to the ML lounge suits most of my travel. The 6 complimentary Dragon Pass visits are very adequate for the odd trip to London or other international, so I’ve been thinking about cancelling my AMEX platinum and getting the Cobalt, just for the groceries multiplier. The AMEX Gold seemed the logical step to downgrade to, but doesn’t seem to complement my CIBC Aeroplan infinite privilege the same as the Cobalt. Have a RBC WJ basic MC for Costco visits. Anyone else with similar Platinum dilemma? Any hint of an AMEX Gold refresh in the next couple of months? I also have a US Preferred Everyday AMEX which is fantastic for when I’m staying in the US. So, before I cancel my Platinum, any words of wisdom?
Interesting read! However I’m curious to know why isn’t the Scotia Gold Amex credit card not considered when the Cobalt card is highly praised. Both offer a similar return on spending while the Scotia Amex has a slight advantage on some categories.
