Amazing post!!!!
Did you by chance make a mistake with the destination fee credits? When I was there, just a few weeks before you were, the F&B credit was definitely US$50 because I remember it being the exact amount for two drinks. Or did they change it in the weeks following my departure and prior to your arrival?
Regardless, excellent review, we had the exact same room and I thoroughly enjoyed it as you did. And I can definitely relate to the "feeling out of place" feelings you and Jessy had.
Also, it was explained to us at check in the the F&B credit did not apply the day you checked out and had to be used the previous day starting the day you checked in. It seems they didn’t tell you which is frustrating and you definitely deserved it to be applied at breakfast like you did. Glad you got the positive end result.
I’m surprised you enjoyed it as much as you did. From the pictures the place seems old and stuffy (both figuratively and literally). I honestly dont like the decor as I find it very old fashioned but in a bad way.
I thought of another article idea for you: When travelling on points how do you handle tipping? I was thinking that the butler who brought you coffee may have gotten a tip as well as whomever served your breakfast. or not?
I think I enjoyed it very much as a bucket list item, rather than the type of hotel I’d normally stay at, and therefore I’m not too enthusiastic about returning now that I’ve checked it off the list.
To be honest, it’s not something I give a lot of thought to. I usually don’t have cash on me, so that means I usually don’t tip the butlers. I think we tipped the breakfast server $10 via the room charge. For the house Bentley driver, I had a $5 on me, so I tipped him that, but I just as easily could’ve had no change, in which case there’d be no tip. So yeah, I mostly go with the flow.
I’m a little sensitized. I just spent a week in Florida and it seemed everyone from the taxi to delivery people where waiting rather expectantly. Maybe I look like a mark lol. I felt a certain kind of pressure for sure.
Or tipping the driver of the house Bentley?
