I applied for and received the in-path offer. If I spend $7500 in the first 12 months, do I get the additional 20,000 points? It seems above that this is only the case for the public offer. Thanks.
When is the first year annual fee charged for this card? At first statement, or after first year?
The first statement.
Just want to say thanks! Got approved for myself nd better half as well.
Yesterday I applied from Quebec and it looks like there’s 2 ongoing in path promotion because I was offered 70,000 points + a total of 300$ (10K for 1st purchase + 30K after spending 1K$ + 30K after 90 days + 150$ after an AC flight purchase + 150$ after 90 days)
For folks in Quebec:
– no need to spend $1000, just keep card active
– no need to spend $150 on Air Canada purchases, any $150 spend will do
That’s how I read the fine print.
I called and apparently you only get the $150 statement credit if you actually booked the flight.
Yes, it’s a statement credit on Air Canada purchases.
Please clarify: is the $150 statement credit only applicable during the booking flow and completing the booking (I.e. not a dummy booking)? Or can you just do a dummy booking, pause it to do the online application , then come back to the dummy booking and abandon the booking (with the expectation that you would do a real booking on another day and expect the $150 statement credit only then?
The latter. The $150 statement credit is on any Air Canada purchase following your approval for the card.
I just tested and read the terms and agreement. I was doing a legit search -> Ottawa to Vegas and applied, I am preapproved as a TD Customer. TD’s said I have to wait 7-10 days first. Thus from my experience if you are planning to search and book with the card after getting approved it doesn’t look possible.
So I will wait the 7-10 days to get the card and book my trip. The 150 A/C credit is any A/C purchase within the next 12 months. I also confirmed that I am also an all-inclusive account holder with TD so the cards annual fee is waived for me anyways + 40K points 🙂
Do you know if the TD All inclusive waives more than one credit card annual fee?
Unfortunately not the account provides one waiver.
Here are their terms:
Subject to credit approval. Annual Fee rebate applies only for the Primary Cardholder of one of the following new (to you) TD Credit Cards – TD® Aeroplan®Visa Infinite* Card, TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* Card, TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite* Card, TD Platinum Travel Visa* Card or TD Cash Back Visa Infinite* Card, and for one Authorized User Card for the same TD Credit Card Account for as long as the All-Inclusive account remains open and in good standing. All other fees and charges applicable to the selected and approved TD Credit Card Account continue to apply.
Could the $150 credit be used for food and beverage on board an air canada flight or could it be used to cover the taxes and fees from using a buddy pass?
Does it make sense to get both the in-path TD Aeroplan Infinite for the points and the CIBC Aeroplan Core for the buddy pass?
For sure!
Thanks, just got approved for the 40000 points offer. Just making sure you think its FYF still?
Appreciate your hard work
Chris – this was initially my understanding but I was incorrect on this one. The $150 statement credit effectively replaces the First Year Free, and isn’t layered on top of a First Year Free offer. You’re still strictly better off with this in-path offer if you don’t value the Buddy Pass though.
The latest offering (Dec 13, 2021) does not explicitly state that the first year is free. Can anyone confirm that the offering for 40K points and $150 statement credit includes first year free?
It would appear the $150 statement credit has replaced the annual fee waiver.
This is correct.
How do we love thee? Let us count the ways!
Just re-applied to take advantage of this in-path offer, and the bonus 20% point credit after travel is the icing on the cake.
Thank you Prince of Travel!
Applied today and was rejected for the first time ever. I have excellent credit, very good income, etc etc. The only thing that has changed for me is that we sold our house, moved to Montreal and are currently renting. I wonder if that might have thrown it off for me. I did call in and the two TD reps I talked to were not particularly helpful and couldn’t find my application. One rep did say that they’d been getting numerous calls regarding this particular offer and people being rejected.
Does having a CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite card change this offer?
Nope.
I was approved for this card back in September 2020 and cancelled the card in May 2021. I applied a few weeks ago and was approved online and am now waiting for my card. The T&C says you can’t have held this card in the last six months to be eligible for the bonus. Should I call TD to confirm eligibility for the bonus before activating this card? I don’t want to get dinged for the annual fee and get zero points for a card I don’t need.
Attempted the online application and was given an unexpected error message at the end. Spent about 45m on hold with TD and was hung up on after being told “sure I’ll be able to help you.” Spent another 1h on hold and had a fantastic rep who didn’t have access to the promotion (tried on her TD computer but nothing came up; tried on her personal computer and got the AMEX offer). She said I had 8 profiles (not sure how…I’ve only ever had 2 products with TD) on the TD system and that’s likely why it wasn’t going through. Processed an app for the 10k+15k/FYF offer but put a note on my account that provided manager approval for me to call in for the extra 20k points once I hit the $1k MSR.
I’ve booked an appt with my nearby branch to merge the accounts (need to show ID in-person) for next Friday. Hoping everything goes smoothly.
I keep getting offered the AMEX Aeroplan Card instead.. I’ve tried incognito mode and different browsers. I can’t get the TD one to show up 🙁
Same here. Anyone know if there’s a particular way to pull it up?
Hi YL and Az — For some reason, the chances of seeing the TD offer are higher if you select cheap flight tickets (something up to $450).
When you select tickets above $600, you’ll see the AMEX offer instead.
Did the application while waiting for an appointment, instant approval . Now I have 3 aeroplan cards. thx for the post Ricky
Do you actually need to go through with the AC flight booking to qualify for the in path offer?
Nope, no obligation to actually book the flight, it’s just a way to pull up the offer.
I am getting denied and suspect it could be due to being unable to provide complete information online. Specifically, for address confirmation, it asks how long I have lived at my address (just a bit over a year), and then does not ask for any previous address. When I called in, the rep claims they have no way of seeing exactly why the application was denied, but claims incomplete information is a common reason for online applications. He said it needs to have 3 years of address history, yet I have no way of entering that on the online form. He offered to apply over the phone, but like others mentioned, the 45K points offer is not available that way. No way of amending the online application so that it can be reconsidered either. Very poor experience. I tried resubmitting my app stating that I lived at my address for over 3 years, but get denied again, which is not surprising, since it won’t match the info on my credit report. Too bad, so sad, it would have been an easy batch of 90K points for me and P2.
Same thing here. Myself and wife were denied. We got a different reason every time we talked to them. Finally they said need 3 years. I figured they were making that up also. Built our new house 2 and a half years ago. If the application needs more than 3 years, why not ask for additional previous addresses like every other bank. So even if you are Jeff Bezos or a multi millionaire, you will be denied if you changed your residence in the past 3 years. Only bank that I have had issues with unfortunately.
Has anyone actually gotten the 10k + 35k points from this offer?
Yes 3 family members received the 45k pts on the previous offer
I called 18009838472 and mentioned the air canada offer. They have the promo on file, so they can help you apply over the phone.
Something particularily smells over there at TD. I just got refused for a small $10k Visa Infinite after an online application. I applied last year, same thing. My credit score on both Equifax and Transunion is Excellent, pay off CC every month, nothing in delinquincy, yet same result. Credit utilization is a bit high slightly above 30%, but due to mortage. Pay is above required amounts, yet still get refused!!! What to do? They had no issue with Car loans which get paid off before term, but I guess I an extreme credit risk somehow?? Out of ideas!
I applied two days ago for the TD card with the 45,000 points promo ( application deadline of July 21). I got the message saying there was a system error, so I the spoke to a rep and she could not find anything in her system about this promo….saying all she could find was the offer that included the Buddy Pass. I spent a lot of time with this repand she told me she was emailing her supervisor and trying to get info about the 45,000 promo. After a very long conversation with the rep, I told her that I would try again in a couple of days…hoping the error will be fixed. I tried gain today and still got the system error message. Any ideas of how I can move ahead with the application?
Hi,
Is the 12 month to qualify to new WB based on the last day of cancelling/PS from the original card or from when the WB was posted on the original card. PS from VI back in Sep.20 (WB posted back in 2018). It’s been 8 months so wondering if can get the new WB now?
Talked with a rep today after i was declined (was declined due to me missing a phone call from the credit analyst to confirm former address/employer). Told me that he can see the code on the online app but there system will not allow him to input it for the phone applications. So it looks like you need that first app to go through or youll be stuck with the normal offer 20K + BP. He did put a number of notes about the offer in my application so maybe ill get it but not holding my breath.
Has anyone actually submitted an application under this promo and had the application processed by TD? After the application script failed to submit and failed to do a hard pull, I got 100% pushback from TD, claiming it’s not a valid promo.
I just got Approved
I got approved.
I just got approved with the limited offer of up to 45,000 Aeroplan points, plus first year no annual fee.
Do you have a CIBC AP VI? I’m just wondering if they will approve someone who has any type of AP VI on their account. I want to try this, but I don’t want to get screwed with only getting 20k AP and no buddy pass.
Robert, I used the link above to get the 45K AP points vice the standard promotion which includes the Buddy Pass. For some reason, it was the last “promotion” link in this blog post that took me to the bonus. Yes, I do have the CIBC AP VI and recently received the CIBC AP Bus VI.
My confirmation from TD states, 10k pts after the first purchase then 35k after the min spend of $1k.
I also followed the advice of many here to clear your browser and use incognito window.
For what it’s worth: I am an existing CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite cardholder, and I applied for the TD equivalent Visa using the link and got approved for the card plus I was given first year fee waiver and up to 45,000 Aeroplan miles sign up bonus.
Hey Josh: Got my TD a few months ago, got my first 10K, then another 10K after I hit $1000+ in spending. But I have been waiting for my BP for almost 2 months after I spent over $4000. Do you have an idea what the issue could be? Many thanks!
I haven’t heard of anyone who got their TD Buddy Pass sooner than 3 months after meeting the spend requirement. Hang tight, it’ll come.
Thanks Josh!
The first time I tried the promotional link above, it still came up with the standard 10k + 10k + BP offer. I closed the window and tried again, and it then showed the 10k + 35k offer. Went through the application process, and at one of the review stages checked the offer terms, and the fine print still showed the 10k + 10K + BP, did not reference the 45k promotional offer WB. Hopefully it was just a glitch in the terms they referenced, already claimed a BP as part of the CIBC AP VI, so don’t qualify for another one this year…..
Always get rejected by TD. They seem to have it out for me ever since they forgot to close an account and it destroyed my credit score.
Wow. Small world except I did close my account and $1 late interest charge was added. As I was younger and foolish I decided not to pay it out of “principle” (pun intended), for a very long time. Evil TD also destroyed my credit score but a nice former Canada Trust lady help me rebuild it with a prepaid card… after this 1 attempt for TD card, won’t try again. They have at least 2 defects on their online application, of the them being creating secondary profiles from the application that does not match your older profile when you were a client, then auto-declining you for not being able to identify you.
Out of curiosity. If you’ve had the CIBC/TD AP cards from back in spring/summer of 2020 (June for example). Would applying for them now (say at 11 months) exclude you from the points/Buddy pass 12 month window restriction?
I’ve converted two buddy passes so far; the first one (TD Infinite Priv) took about two weeks, AC deleted the buddy pass first and then, a few days later, credited the points. The second buddy (CIBC Infinite) was converted in a few days with an almost simultaneous deleting/points crediting.
And Josh, you are correct – the TD buddy took three months to arrive after meeting the minimum spend; the CIBC 2 days.
Just tried to apply with the link, and got this message at the end of the application process: Unfortunately, we cannot complete your application online. Please call us at 1-800-983-2582 or book an appointment at your nearest branch and we will help you complete it.
Since you can’t apply over the phone or in the branch, as indicated in the article, it could be that you can’t use the generic link if your Aeroplan number or some other piece of information doesn’t match the targeted list. This is just speculation
I’ve been a TD client my entire life and I always get that message… I think it’s just a glitch with the online application. It also looks like a TD issue, whereas if there’s a restriction on who’s eligible, that would be on the Aeroplan side.
