The Business version of the Marriott Bonvoy card pays 3 point per dollar on gas, dining and travel (excluding non-Marriott hotels). This can sometimes be more than enough to cover the additional $30 in annual fee ($150 vs. $120).
One fyi note….your points received for spend in Canadian dollars on Canadian Marriott Cards can be used as points for any hotels priced in US funds, with no exchange rate conversion, a 35% bonus. Spend on US cards, in US dollars, earns you the same number of points.
My goal has always been “find the best category 5 you can” as I’ve often found they can be both quite comfortable and reasonable in terms of points. If you are vigilant, you can find great places. In fact, these are some of the cat 5 hotels that I got for 35k, but moved UP to cat 6 after my stay.
