Unfortunately, short hops to the US with AA now cost the same as with BA Avios, 7.5k each way for flights up to 650 miles.
I’m having difficulty finding the AA F flight from JFK to LAX. It seems like there is only availability for business class?
Further to my point that the above Iberia AA chart is off Ord-Phx on iberia is 23K points $20.60 on BA 22K points $14.96. So…..
Can you book BA flights using Iberia Avios (such as YYZ-LHR)? If so – will it charge fewer fees and taxes than redeeming BA Avios?
Not sure who prepared the Iberia AA chart but I have tried a few bookings for Sea-Lax (954 miles) and came up 17K points and also plugged in Yvr-Lax (1081 miles) and came up 23K points. Thoughts?
Remember that Iberia Avios are only best-suited to round-trip redemptions on American Airlines. You can technically book one-ways as well, but it would still be priced at the round-trip level (as you’ve discovered).
I have gone Vueling a few times and believe it or not been OK.
While Iberios is byzantine in nature, sometimes it is worth the effort.
The website can drive you out of your mind and seems to take forever to make a flight but often is worth the trouble.

Important things to note / add on Iberia Avios:
– Doesn’t fly to Canada so always needs to position.
– Miles can be used on Level and Vueling
– Points can be transferred from/to EI as well.
– ORD is a sweet spot since it costs the same as JFK and BOS even though the cost should be higher.
– Always releases 2 seats when schedule opens, never seen it release more.
– MEX may be a sweet spot since depending on the season, it can have up 3 daily flights to Madrid.
– Often has discounts on award redemptions, sometimes on short/mid-haul and sometimes on long-haul (J included .. I’ve seen 25% discount).
Excellent post. Very grateful that you’ve been digging into this as well as other programs. Also, It could be a long or short "O" at the end as well
I’m traveling to Spain x 2 in May and flying Vueling, BCN to Seville while there. I read that joining Vueling would convert the cost of the flight to Avios at 1:1, but I could also join Iberia and I would get points based on distance flown, much better considering how cheap these tickets were. I’ve been debating wether its worth the trouble for so few points, but now I am reconsidering.
What are some Iberia benefits for western Canadians??
Specifically YVR? How does Iberia rank against BA for the AA flights from YVR to LAX?
Ask Ricky to tell you how to wipe your ass too
Why are you such an a**hole
Plus, sometimes they have 50% off redemption on Iberia metal (including business) which makes sweet spots sweeter
How much activity do you need to have to keep these points active?
