What happens if I have 2 Core credit cards in my Aeroplan account: Amex Aeroplan Reserve and TD Visa infinite Aeroplan? How will Preferred Pricing work? Which card will be considered? Note: No elite status.

Are basic co-branded cards included in the Core card definition (ex. TD Aeropan Platinum Visa), or does Core card refer to only the mid-tier cards (ex. TD Aeroplan Infinite Visa)?

TD Aeroplan Platinum visa is not considered as “Core”, only the Visa Infinite version is considered as such

Thanks for the deep dive into different factors and their effects on preferred pricing. My concern is that if I search AP reward tickets on AC website while logged in (have a core AP CC), AC will know that I’m interested and then potentially their algorithm will artificially jack up any preferred pricing, similar to how airlines will show higher prices when one searches an itinerary a few times (without clearing cookies/browsing data)? So I have only searched as a guest so far and the drawback of that is no preferred pricing showing. Is my concern valid? Thanks.

Dynamic Pricing has gone crazy. Planning for a trip to Australia late next year, business class pricing has averaged 390000-460000 aeroplan points one way. Using eupgrades – forget it, no R space on any flight. And that is with 35K elite and a couple of Aeroplan black cards

So.. I just booked Qatar Airways Q suites Montreal-Brisbane Australia one way for next year for the cost of two RBC Avion Visa welcome bonuses converted to Avios and $340 in taxes and fees. With $10,000 credit card spend and the 30% conversion bonus I had 36000 Avios left over. Will be looking for one way back either with Fiji (55000 Alaska Air Miles to LAX) or back with Qatar. Thanks POT for the great education on miles and points!

Question: For those without status, is there any pricing difference between having a core card and a premium card?

Very good analysis! I have a TD Aeroplan business Visa card, while my wife don’t have any Aeroplan branded cards. We found out consistently, while not always, using my aeroplan account scores average 5 to 10% less, during non peak travel times. During shoulder or peak travel times, we found there’s little or no difference. Note: we travel mostly internationally, not sure about domestic flights. So it’s worth to get a Aeroplan card.
